Our Big Cookout
Our Memorial Day weekend cookout was graced by beautiful weather and an awful lot of people who seemed to have a good time. Nicole's college friend Beth was in town, visiting from California with her new husband, and we had a good mix of UVA friends, neighbors, and other friends from the area. The girls, of course, had loads of fun, including chasing after Mr. Dave who was playing keep away with the ice cream bars (see video below).

Summer Job
Ava had her last day of preschool yesterday and today we went to the neighborhood pool for the first time this season. Tomorrow we host a Memorial Day weekend cookout, and thank goodness our little girls are jumping in to help. Ava especially jumped in to work hard with her mom. Meanwhile, Kyra had a blast with me while we went grocery shopping.

More Fun Time with Nana

Here are more photos of our time with Nana, either at my mother's house or at the butterfly farm we visited. Here also is a video showing how much fun the girls had playing with their Nana.

Little Mountaineers

video

One of the highlights of our trip to Colorado was a two night visit to Breckenridge with Papa. Although there was a little snow falling in the Littleton suburbs when we left, we drove through swirling snowstorms on the drive up the mountain and got something like 8 inches of new snow in Breckenridge. It warmed up so quickly, though, that the sledding wasn't as smooth as we might have hoped and the snow melted fast. Between the snow, the hotel swimming pool, the cartoon channels on the hotel cable system, all our activities, and the company of their grandfather, the girls couldn't have been happier. Check out our Breckenridge photo album and the following videos.

The Mother of All Mother's Days
We just returned from a week with my family in Colorado, and it was too full a week to do justice to the vacation with brief blog updates. For now, let me talk about Mother's Day, in which my grandmother, mother, and father joined my family for Kyra's baptism. It was at the same church where both my father and I had been baptised when we were infants, so we had 4 generations of family and 3 generations of First Plymouth baptisees there. Kyra clung tightly to her mother during the baptism itself but otherwise was better behaved than we had expected.
.
Then we all went out to dinner together. Even though we literally had to wait about 2 hours and 45 minutes to be seated, it was a beautiful day and the White Fence Farm had a playground, moonbounce, barnyard animals, and other distractions to keep the girls happy (and therefore the rest of us entertained) until we could eat. Check out our Mother's Day photo album.

Neighborhood Birthday Party
Kyra is not the youngest girl on the block. A British family (whose dad works at the UK embassy) had a little girl here whom they named Liberty, and she just celebrated her first birthday. We had a beautiful night outside with our neighbors at her party. The girls particularly enjoyed the chocolate, strawberries, and trampoline. In this photo (from before going to the party) showcases color in the form of our azaleas and of a red ribbon that Nicole somehow got Kyra to wear in her hair.

How to Spend a Weekend
This past weekend was good for me, although it seemed to have been consumed by trimming the hedges, ironing clothes, and making a trip to the mall. This picture, though, is how I'd like to remember the weekend.
